So despite Obama's assurances during the campaign that he "wasn't going to take your guns", his Attorney General has just said that that's exactly what the administration wants to do.

Harry Reid has also said that he would oppose any effort to reinstate the 1994 ban, with this statement by his spokeman: "Reid spokesman Jim Manley said the Nevada Democrat will preserve his traditional pro-gun rights voting record."

Holder gave his comments during a press conference to announce the arrests of over 700 people connected to the Mexican drug cartels. He said that "there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons".
Holder went on to justify this blatant gun-grabbing by pointing to the violence in Mexico, saying "I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum."
As any rational human being can see, the violence in Mexico (and here!) is being fueled by drug prohibition. The violence will not cease, and drug cartels will only increase in power, until we end drug prohibition. We've seen it before, in the 30's with alcohol prohibition.
