[Note: Forgive me if this has been blogged to death already; a search for it came up empty. And this one is simply too priceless to go without sharing.]
Poor Rick Santelli. Last week, he was the National Hero of the Right, embraced by all of wingnuttia for his off-the-hook rant against President Obama's housing plan on CNBC.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs proceeded to light him up like a Christmas tree.
Today? Santelli's reduced to whining about how big, bad Robert Gibbs personally threatened him during last week's press conference.
Not even colleague Matt Lauer can swallow that load of crap, and hilarity ensues...
I won't go into a blow-by-blow of this... it is really something that must be watched to be fully appreciated. NBC created the Santelli monster, but Matt Lauer dissected and destroyed it on national TV this morning. This was the single most hilarious thing I've ever seen on the Today Show.
(Matt Lauer, I hereby forgive you for anything mean I've said about you before. That was priceless.)
Chicago Tea Party, indeed. I can only imagine how our Revolution would have turned out if the Founding Fathers were as whiny as the new hero of the right...
Thomas Paine: "I was just trying to make a point about taxation without representation, you know, and then King George calls me out personally about Common Sense. That, y'know, just isn't appropriate for a monarch."
John Adams: "I know what you mean. When I complained about the Intolerable Acts, one of the King's representatives yelled at me, and his body language was weird. I felt really threatened by that. I wouldn't say anything normally, but Abigail made me."
Just for amusement's sake, let's review the Gibbs video and see if we can ascertain any hints of a personal threat against Mr. Santelli...
Hmmm. I don't seem to read, "I'm going to kick Santelli's ass" anywhere between the lines in Gibbs' response.
If this is enough to make Rick Santelli feel personally threatened, I'd hate to see how he'd react to someone calling him an asshole and threatening to kick his ass. I suspect cowardly shrieking would be involved, somehow.
Republicans... behold the leader of your rebellion, Rick Santelli! Make that man a full general in the Red State Strike Force!
Viva revolucion! Viva Santelli!
Bwahahahaha!
