Kentucky: The fistfight over fundraising fetween McConnell and Bunning gets ugly
The Courier-Journal is reporting today that Kentucky senator Jim "bat shit crazy" Bunning told three unnamed sources at a Capital Hill fundraiser, that he would resign from the senate over a squabble with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and the GOP over fundraising leaving Kentucky governor Steve Beshear to appoint his successor.
Bunning, who last week made the news, and yet again embarrassed himself and his state on a national stage, by publicly commenting that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsberg was going to die soon, was quoted by three sources who asked to remain unnamed due to the politically sensitive nature of the situation as saying that he would "get the last laugh, don’t forget that Kentucky has a Democratic Governor."
According to the Courier-Journal Bunning reports $150,000.00 on hand for his re-election bid, far short of the estimated$10,000,000.00 required for his upcoming re-election run and it has been no secret that McConnell has hamstrung Bunning’s fundraising efforts in the past as he clearly feels that the senile embarrassment of a senator is a liability and very vulnerable in the 2010 election (Daniel Mongiarido is a STRONG contender).
Clearly their public squabble has taken a dark turn, while I don’t expect Bunning to carry through on his threat, he is attempting to send a message to McConnell, this being: support my crazy, senile old ass or else.
It speaks volumes for Bunning’s viability as a candidate that only 15 people were on hand at the National Mining Association headquarters as well as the fact that his fundraising is clearly on life support.
We can only hope that Bunning and McConnell’s argument spills out into the public even further, the fissures are growing within the party. I feel that these latest statements, like everything else ‘ol "bat shit crazy" Bunning says are the ramblings of a senile, washed up ball player, and need to be dismissed as such, however it is certainly telling of the condition of the GOP and it’s much heralded party unity as well as what we can look forward over the next 22 months!
