This is straight from Newsmax, my wingnut amusement of choice. They report that Clint Eastwood told the German Der Spiegel magazine that......
......we live in a wrongly political correct society becuase...wait for it...we no longer can tell "jokes about different races" without being called racist.
Key graf:
"People have lost their sense of humor," he told the magazine. "In former times we constantly made jokes about different races. You can only tell them today with one hand over your mouth otherwise you will be insulted as a racist.
"I find that ridiculous. In those earlier days every friendly clique had a 'Sam the Jew' or 'Jose the Mexican' -- but we didn't think anything of it or have a racist thought. It was normal that we made jokes based on our nationality or ethnicity. That was never a problem."
No, this is not The Onion.
I just cannot get over how much conservatives are exposing their racism, seemingly more than in the previous 3 decades, at the dawn of the 21st century. Obama's election has pushed them over the edge, they just can't hold back anymore.
Eastwood's sentiments are not isolated but an example of a broader conservative reality, from what I'm seen of how Republicans continue to try to win elections and neverending anecdotal observations of what both intellectual and grass-roots conservatives have to say about race on TV and radio, in columns, and on blogs and message boards.
And that is why I make this bold prediction: no conservative ever again will be elected President of the United States. Republicans will not win the White House until sentiments like Eastwood's are expunged from the ranks, which simply won't happen for a very long time if ever. So the next Republican President, who I don't think we'll see for a veeeeery long time, will be someone politically and ideologically in the mold of an Arlen Specter.
