We have so many insightful and powerful diaries written here at Daily Kos. Our diaries inform, inflame, impassion, and even entertain. We Kossacks have strong voices and an even stronger will to be the change we wish to see in this country.
One of the richest, and perhaps most under-appreciated, areas of thought come in the form of comments attached to these diaries.
Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and through nominations sent to topcomments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks.
These nominations are subjective, and certainly not complete (as no one can read the complete site on a daily basis!). But hopefully they will serve to shine a light where deserved, and to give the reader a good starting point in finding conversation on the site.
Please come in and make yourself at home!
Yay! Today's temp got all the way into the mid-50s F here in my mountains and the sun shone. My crocus and daffodils are up two inches - dare we hope for Spring?
I've been a stranger round these parts for the last few months, barely exceeding lurker-status. But I've had a good excuse - I spent most of January and all of February visiting my son, d-in-law, and baby granddaughter in Maryland. They bought a house in Severn (near Fort Meade, where my son teaches broadcast technologies) and during the remodeling and moving, I had the privilege of being their live-in nanny to my beautiful six-month-old Lauren. Will you indulge this granny with a few fantabulous photos?
My girl Lauren loves her some chocolate - below demolishing her six-month birthday cupcake:
Note, in this last photo (finally!), the great feeding tool - I called it a 'foodsock' - works on a suck-and-chew principle, I'm serious. We used it to give her bananas, avocado, biscuits and gravy, asparagus, carrots and even frozen peaches, especially great during the days she cut her first two teeth.
It was a great trip. I'm going back to MD in June for a month and again after Labor Day for two months. Hope I can get together with some Kossacks in and around DC and / or Baltimore - be on the lookout for me, ok? I'll be the one pushing the stroller.

This first one came in too late to make Tuesday night's TC but better late than never!
From phonegery:
KOS commenters are active problem solvers, and always willing to gently give you good advice.
The person with the problem, a lawyer posting at one of the conservative blogs, who was making more than $250,000 a year claimed that she would turn away clients, and keep her income to exactly $249,999 and thus thwart Obama in his plan to raise taxes on incomes over $250,000. Many commenters mentioned that she didn't seem to understand the concept of marginal rate of taxation, one commenter gave her an example of how to figure her marginal rate, and 88Kathy simplified it even more: Living out of a shopping cart would cut her

Ya know, I really hate to but I nominate myself, and Massconfusion. Start here - funny thread follows, in a very horrible, making fun of Rush Limbaugh, crass way. It's the only way to fly.
Thanks! (Geez, I can't believe I'm doing this... make sure to stop here. That's where the funny stops. :)

Dudes y Dudettes, this - let's call the corporate insurance scam by Tin Hat Mafia - is the best comment I can ever remember reading, and, as you can see by my user ID, I've been around a while (in nyceve's diary, Healthcare reform needs all hands on board today).

A top comment nomination for your consideration. Into The Woods made this elegant analogy in a discussion regarding rush's desire for Obama to "fail": Once You're In the Car, You Don't Hope It Fails.

Greetings from wader:
In light of the recently reported, near-miss of an asteroid with the Earth (i.e., passing closer than the distance between our planet and its moon), Corporate Dog provides a rebuttal - Nonsense - to the notion (possible tongue-in-cheek) of spending "gobs of money for Asteroid monitoring!!!
