Why can't we vote online?
I know - it's not secure, no paper trail, to easy to manipulate votes yadda yadda yadda - I've heard them all and perhaps until today those concerns were valid. My objection over these concerns in the past has always been - if online voting isn't possible b/c of technical limitations then we have a choice - to invest and develop a fully web based and secure voting system or not. Seems like the consensus has been to not develop one. Wonder why?
Now researchers Ben Adida of Harvard Medical School, Jean-Jacques Quisquater and Oliveier Pereira have developed - HELIOS a practical, web-based, secure and verifiable voting system.
You're probably aware of the many problems with our current voting technology; think diebold, hanging chad and missing ballet boxes etc.. but for some reason we accept those limitations and instead of counting every vote we only ‘talk’ about counting every vote.
Helios - how it works.
It's easy - you vote online, at work, at home from your iphone - anywhere.
" because the tallying happens under the covers of encryption, the entire verification processes is done without revealing the contents of each individual vote. by using Helios voters no longer need to blindly trust those supervising the election, as officials must provide mathematical proofs that everything was done appropriately.

If it were easier for people to vote more people would. The more people vote the better Democrats do. The more Democrats we elect the more we can focus on electing better Democrats.
This technology is a work in progress but it’s a great step in the right direction and I think it’s important for it to be supported.
