I google Jindal to see where this would-be "conservative icon" is on the stimulus thing lately--and I find but this news page that says he's turning down 98.4 million dollars (to help Louisiana's unemployed through this economic disaster the GOP led us into.)
That's no surprise, because he was trying to lead this parade of Republican governors that were all huffin' and puffin' about how this stimulus thing is all pork, and we ain't gonna accept this, or accept that, because we were elected to be conservatives and we don't need big government to help our states, we're conservatives and we don't believe in handouts and we believe in conservative principles and we ain't hypocrites...
And then in the same article, it says that he's turning down $98.4 million so he can accept two BILLION. (continued)
...and I said to myself, "Jesus H. Christ on a Flexible Flyer," no wonder this party's in trouble. Here's the poster boy for conservatism (by default, because no one else wants to be, these days) and he's announcing that he's gonna accept two BILLION dollars worth of "other people's tax money, just to keep his state going through the next couple of years!
He doesn't want to, personally he's against it, he's denouncing that money, but god damn it to hell--he's gonna take it, against his better judgment and despite everything he says he believes in and stands for!
Here's the article http://www.2theadvocate.com/..., it's at a web page called the Advocate, which I thought was some kind of gay publication but is apparently also a news broadcast station down in Weeziana that will run stuff about how the conservative Republican governor is going to eat shit publicly and take every federal dollar he can, so long as it doesn't reach the unemployed families of his state.
Is that fucked up or what?
I did a diary a couple of weeks ago about how the conservative governors were making all this noise about how they really resented this federal spending were going to form some kind of conga line to get handouts when the money actually came down. You don't have to be the Psychic Hotline to see that one coming, but does anyone here know of any case where a GOP governor actually is refusing this stimulus money, because accepting federal tax money violates his or her loudly proclaimed conservative principles?
I would pay to see such an animal, if it actually exist. I suspect, though, that it is a mythical beast, like the unicorn or griffin or that giant turtle that breathes fire on Tokyo in those black and white films. I figure if the party sent Jindal out on TV to say that Obama's solution is wrong (and Jindal's taking two BILLION of that money, even though he says it's wrong)--then there just cain't be a conservative governor who's refusing any money because he believes that federal spending is already too high.
Conservatives want to give this guy a medal because he refused 98 MILLION--and he's taking TWO BILLION? I don't know about you, but I'm beginning to doubt their ideological sincerity...
