One of Governor David Paterson's poor attempts to close the budget gap is to raise SUNY tuition by $600 for this year, which is being called a tax on tuition. While SUNY schools will collect money from this tuition hike, state funding will be reduced by the same amount. In effect, this hike will not go towards improving state schools, but would rather have students pay more for their education without receiving any benefits from it.
In response, everywhere across the state students are rallying to bring attention to the tuition increase.
So, this Tuesday March 10th, the Binghamton University Student Association, with sponsorships from College Democrats, College Republicans, and College Libertarians, are sponsoring a SUNY Tuition Rally on campus. The rally will take place from 11am-12:30pm in the heart of campus by the Fountain walkway. To find out more about this event, check out the facebook event.
So, what do you think of the tuition increase?
