The Hill has just reported that House Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi, are considering additional Stimulus spending:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), standing with members of her leadership team by Zandi’s side, said she agreed that another stimulus bill is being considered.
"We have to keep the door open," Pelosi said. "The word of the day is confidence. Confidence in our markets, confidence in lending, confidence in our financial institutions."
There's only so long the Democrats in Washington can plausibly claim that the initial stimulus package, along with the other new spending in the omnibus budget, is sufficient to fill what is sure to amount to a multi-trillion-dollar hole in the economy over the next few years. It's a relief to see that the leadership is rapidly acknowledging this fact, and even if they're a month or so behind your average serious economist, this gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, there's hope for a better-than-half-assed push for serious economic action.
