After being humiliated by Rush Limbaugh, assaulted from all sides for either denouncing Rush or apologizing to Rush, after being questioned about past campaign spending, after being criticized for taking so long in hiring new people after removing so many, after being caught shorting the campaign committees of money that his predecessor had ready to send to the NRCC and the NRSC, Michael Steele is now facing the prospect of a no confidence vote. No kidding. This is whether or not the Republicans win in NY-20, which we hope they won't(help Scott Murphy). The date being floated for the vote is after the special congressional election, and to repeat, this is no matter who the winner is.
What makes this even more hilarious? It's being organized by the Steele-rival who was a long-time member of a whites-only country club.
Katon Dawson, state Republican Party Chairman in South Carolina, would be the absolutely-worse guy for the Republicans to have to remove Michael Steele. I mean, really... seriously? You turn to the older white guy with segregationist-ties from South Carolina to remove Michael Steele from power? No, I'm not suggesting that those who want to remove Steele are necessarily racist. I know I'd be hopping mad if someone with Steele's issues were the chairman of my political party! But really. Seriously? They'll actually double-down on the South?
I think this is awesome political theater. I'll be sad when Michael Steele is stripped of the chairmanship, and I do hope he'll stay around in some capacity. Katon Dawson's ascension could pose problems for Republicans, but he is, unfortunately, not half as amusing as Michael Steele.
Yet.
