This will be so short I'm sure it will be tossed quickly.
Chris Matthews went after Ari Fleischer on Wednesday night's Hardball with a vengeance. Asking Ari if he could defend Bush, on a number of issues, Matthews was damn-near brutal in his counter-punches.
They jabbed at one another over the economy Obama inherited and, most harshly, on the validity of going to war in Iraq. Matthews was like a frigging pit-bull telling Fleischer that the nukes argument was totally bogus and that the Bush Administration knew it.
Fleischer fought back and insisted that HE had consistently said that it was not a certainty that Saddam had nukes. At some point Chris and Ari reached a stalemate on the point. Ari pushed and pushed the fact that after Sept. 11, the country was not attacked.
In the final minutes of the exchange when Matthews asked Fleischer if he was comfortable defending his old boss, Ari ended the segment with this statement: "I can say that after September 11th I was glad we didn't give Saddam Hussein the chance to attack us again."
Sweet mother of Jesus - was it Freudian or just blatant bullshit?
Memo to Ari: Saddam Hussein NEVER attacked us in the first place.
This revisionist crap is going to get WAY out of hand if we don't keep a watchful eye, folks.
