Charles W Freeman withdrew his name from consideration for a top intelligence post and Chuck Schumher's finger prints are all over it.
This story broke a couple of days ago.
Charles W. Freeman withdrew his name for consideration after his nomination was attacked by AIPAC.
Senator Chuck Schumer of NY reportedly contacted the White House to oppose the nomination. In a written statement about the withdrawal Senator Schumer said this in a written statement.
"His statements against Israel were way over the top and severely out of step with the administration," said Senator Chuck Schumer in a statement. "I repeatedly urged the White House to reject him, and I am glad they did the right thing."
Senator Chuck's point of view was seconded by that great Senator from the state of CT. Joe Leiberman who said he was concerned that "statements that [Freeman]'s made that appear either to be inclined to lean against Israel."
Mr. Freeman had this statement to make about the situation.
"The libels on me and their easily traceable email trails show conclusively that there is a powerful lobby determined to prevent any view other than its own from being aired, still less to factor in American understanding of trends and events in the Middle East,"
Is Israel the third rail of Democratic politics? Is it possible to critique Israel and not be called an anti-Semite or to be found "unacceptable" by AIPAC?
I called Senator Schumer's office to express my disappointment. I have followed and supported his career from before he ran against and beat Al D'Mato.
