Former president, George W. Bush travels to Calgary, Alberta, Canada tomorrow for a speaking engagement.
Canada has stringent rules when it comes to admitting war criminals and torturers into our country. Merely having the wrong political history is sufficient these days to keep you from entering Canada. When William Ayers, a former leader in the Weather Underground, attempted to enter Canada for a speaking engagement in January, he was stopped at the border and refused entry.
But a double standard exists in Canada. Our Conservative Party government has no problem with George W. Bush attending a speaking engagement in Calgary, Alberta tomorrow to address the local chamber of commerce.
This is the same George Bush who suspended Habeas Corpus in the United States and authorized the use of torture for certain prisoners. Many Canadians believe that if 'anyone' is undesirable for admission to Canada, it is George W. Bush. Unfortunately, 1500 Calgary business types have paid $400 each to hear him.
The good news is that George W. Bush will be 'greeted' in Calgary tomorrow by a large group of Canadians who do not appreciate his international legacy nor his casual admission to our country.
