You want to resurrect the middle class. Go to its final resting place. Your people need you. These people need your presence and the promises you made the most. We need a cause besides hatred of banks and insurance companies to rally around. We need to see our leaders reaching out. To lead by example. We need to see that you care.
You want political capital. That's where it's at. Show us you give a damn, lead the way and your army of supporters will follow. Political opponents will follow lest they desire more fully experiencing their own impotence.
There are empty homes everywhere. It is indecent for this situation to exist.
You made the call for us to serve. Now pay the dollars. The New York Times reports there is an abundance of exuberant unemployed servants looking for someway to help. The charities do not have the funds to put this free human capital to work.
But others grumbled that the current love affair with volunteerism, encouraged by President Obama’s nationwide call to public service, can be a mixed blessing. Smaller organizations, with staffs of fewer than 20 and no full-time volunteer coordinator, have struggled to absorb the influx, especially since many of them have simultaneously had to cut back on projects in the face of dwindling donations and government grants.
We put you there so you could help us help others. Do not feed distractions, combat them with the faces of their true victims. We know what is good and what is bad. We are hungry to serve. Please, give us your attention and grant us the tools.
