Remember during the presidential campaign, when McCain got pissed over earmarks, which made up like 1% of government spending? Remember last week, when McCain and his GOP friends got pissed over the earmarks in the $410 billion omnibus spending bill, which made up 1% of the bill? Remember how we laughed and laughed? Well, we're doing exactly the same thing now.
Of course the AIG bonuses are ridiculous. Of course they make me angry. But AIG has gotten close to $200 billion from the governemt, and we're throwing fits over $165 million? It's a great political move of course, for all the Senators and representatives to talk about firing execs and putting people in jail and even suicide. But why don't any of them propose taking control of a company we own 80% of? Because that's hard. So they take the easy way out, feign outrage, and we lap it up. And nothing changes. You don't think AIG will gladly trade $165 million for the $30 billion the government still plans on giving them? Let's not lose sight on the big picture here people.
