Something evil has snuck into the public consciousness while everyone is discussing the AIG excesses.
I have been working and traveling so I haven't been on this site in a couple of days...so I don't know if this has been discussed.
I want to go out on St. Patrick's Day...I'm in Milwaukee, a great beer drinking town ...and this is what I get confronted with....
" You know, Obama wants to cancel health insurance for our military" a well educated woman told me with absolute certainty. My response: "where did you hear this?" "W something something( Milwaukee's right wing talk radio station". My response (not knowing the story line) ..."This can't be true, especially if you heard it on that station"...I didn't think too much of it.
A couple of hours ...and a few pops later, I'm eating at a nice bar and the bartender tells two customers next to me: "You know Obama wants to cut health insurance for military" I butt in: "Where did you hear this?"
"I think it was Fox News" "Well, no wonder... Fox makes shit up all the time...It should be called Fox lies." Two customers next to me wonder "what has he been smoking" and tell me how CNN is biased for Democrats. They also tell me why Reagan was so great "he cut taxes and made government smaller". This spoken by somebody who was probably 12 years old when Reagan napped through his administration. Since I am half into a book called "Tear Down This Myth" about the faulty narrative that has grown up around Reagan's legacy I knew that after the initial tax cut, taxes were raised and government got larger. But at the time I admit my ability to recall facts was impaired and I wanted to be able to digest my meal without additional bile being generated in my stomach.
So what's the deal on this story...it seems to be absorbed by people who already don't like our President...I can't believe this is true. What's going on here?
