FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                   March 19, 2009

Veterans and Military Families for Progress endorses Scott Murphy for New York’s 20th Congressional District.

Washington, D.C.:
Veterans and Military Families for Progress (www.vmfp.org) enthusiastically and proudly endorses Scott Murphy in the upcoming New York 20th Congressional District special election.  Founded in 2005, VMFP is dedicated to ensuring that the rights and needs of veterans, active-duty service members (including national guard and reservists), and their families are understood by the American public, endorsed by our elected officials, and protected by legislation, regulation, and public policy initiatives.

(More below the fold)

Murphy’s service to our country cannot be questioned. He is a military family member and shares the values of our military forces.  His strong commitment to the issues that are critical to veterans, those serving now, and their families is unsurpassed and his public support for mandatory full funding of the Veterans Administration and his declared determination to provide for the establishment of a national veterans and military family policy give veterans and their families hope that he will vote in such a way as to keep faith with those who have served and sacrificed.

Additionally, Murphy’s recognition of the need for providing and guaranteeing full health coverage for National Guard and Reserve personnel demonstrates that he is a candidate who has the character and courage to do what is right for those in service to our country.  We feel that veterans, active duty, military families, and in fact, all people of New York’s 20th Congressional District will be well-served with Scott Murphy as their  representative by ensuring that America remains strong in national defense and in fighting terrorism while keeping faith with its those who serve, veterans, and their families.

"Coming from a family of veterans, I am honored to receive the endorsement from Veterans and Military Families for Progress and look forward to continuing Senator Gillibrand’s fight on behalf of our veterans across the 20th Congressional District," said Murphy. "In Congress, I will work tirelessly to provide our brave heroes with better health care, more educational and job opportunities, and retirement security that is worthy of their heroic sacrifice."

Veterans and Military Families for Progress is a 501(c)(4) non-partisan, not-for-profit veterans organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. It is a 21st Century organization made up of members located throughout the country, and from across the breadth of rank and military services, who served, are serving, or are family members of those who have heeded the call to serve their country in the U.S. military.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Our vets have been getting short shrift since forever and reading the diary about a homeless vet yesterday damn near sent me over the edge.

Can't vote for Scott, but I can sure send a few bucks and cheer him on.

Thanks for the great news of this endorsement.

Not just on Scott's behalf but for veterans, those serving (Including the Guards and Reserves who often seem to fly under the radar), and their families.

VMFP recently presented a couple of white papers to the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees and Gen. Shinsecki to advance these issues.  There are already good things underway and momentum is building!

Tedesco up in Dutchess. He's plastered everywhere. I'm glad Murphy has the endorsements that count.

    •  testvet, you could phonebank (0+ / 0-)

next week for him. I've bookmarked the DCCC page for him and plan to make some calls up there. Between promoting that activity and spreading the word on his endorsement, that'll pretty much do him good.

AIG wants to change its name? Try PIG - cheaper signage and much more honest.
