We have all seen the bullshit exercise underway to paper over the wasted billions we've thrown at AIG by slapping a 90% tax rate on the paltry millions in bonuses being paid to the very people who ran the bus into the ditch. Looks good for the cameras and all, but it's not enough.
Let's do the same thing with the money AIG has funneled into the campaign coffers of those who have been pretending to regulate them. Like the $281,038 Chris Dodd has raked in since 1989. Or the $111,875 AIG's PACs and employees (read executives) have shovelled to Chuck Shumer, the $110,332 to Barack Obama and the $99,249 to John McCain.
Full list here, if you have the stomache for it.
Listening to this bunch carp about the bonuses THEY made possible is like listening to a whore carp about her pimp keeping most of the money.
If they want to bitch and moan and posture, first they should disgorge every penny they've pocketed, not only from AIG but from anywhere on Wall Street.
Of course, it won't happen, because in Dodd's case that would include the $316,494 he took from Citigroup, $248,500 from SAC Capitol Partners and $218,500 from Royal Bank of Scotland.
