Hello all. This is another installment in an ongoing series of distraction diaries. Are you still getting over the shock that Barack can actually read, unlike his pea-brained predecessor? This is the place to unwind and enjoy some of our feathered friends and a couple of sunrise shots that I did not post last night. Apologies for the somewhat repetitive nature of these when compared with some previous photo diaries. We have a limited number of species to photograph.
Pre-dawn at Lanai Lookout
I stopped by Hamakua Marsh again today to visit some of our wetlands friends....
Black-Crowned Night Heron
Red-Crested Cardinal
Night Heron Liftoff
Hawaiian Stilt, endangered and endemic subspecies of Black-Necked Stilt.
Black-Crowned Night Heron
The endangered and endemic Hawaiian Moorhen.
I waited for this immature Black-Crowned Night Heron to catch a fish and captured this sequence...
Another Heron shot
Night Heron with Tilapia
Hawaiian Moorhen. Legend says that this bird brought fire from the gods to the Hawaiian people.
For fans of the plain and humble, the Hawaiian Coot. This is also an endemic and endangered species.
Pacific Golden Plover or Kolea, this is a female.
This is the male Golden Plover that lives down on the corner near my condo. His "tuxedo" or breeding plumage is starting to fill in. He will soon have a jet black front with a white border.
A tiny brown anole does a display.
Dawn at the cauldron.
I hope you have enjoyed this little visit to Oahu. As always feel free to post your photos and please, be good humans.
Aloha
