I’m a believer in keeping friends close and enemies closer, so I do visit RW blog sites from time to time. Over at FR (the name itself shall not be uttered) the was a thread discussing the gift of the Ipod from the First Couple to the Queen. You can about guess how the thread runs, and it was good for a laugh. Also shows there's no redeeming some people.
Come below for more...bring your waders, please.
The post is titled: About the Obama Ipod gift to the Queen. There are the predictably stupid, racist, and asinine comments, but sometimes a ray of dull sanity glows...if but for a minute. Comments edited for space and bile level.
This is the diarist’s ( poster’s?) initial comment:

So instead of an Ivy League Billy Dee Williams we got Fred Sanford handing out Ripple deluxe instead. NIce.

There was a reply, and for this site, reasonably sane-

Much as I dislike the Oaf in Chief, to be fair, there was more to the gift.
"Pool reporter Richard Wolf of USA Today says that an Obama aide told him the President also gave the Queen a "rare songbook signed by Richard Rodgers".

Billy dee Williams is a Republican: I worked with him on the Haig for President campaign in 1987-88.

Sorry, I just didn't want people to be uninformed and continue a 'half truth', and repeat it, then be embarrassed when the truth came out.
Carry on.

Well .. why didn’t the dems just ask Hillary - the smartest woman in the world (by the way), and perhaps she could have suggested a more appropriate gift. Oh right .. I almost forgot .. Hillary gave the Russians a stupid gift and the word in Russian WAS NOT TRANSLATED CORRECTLY.
Excuse me .. the former Secretary of State Rice spoke fluent Russian, and I believe 7 other languages .. couldn’t somebody have ask her for the proper translation .. oh yeah .. she is one of "those" (not black enough).
These Obama people are just plain ignorant about protocol. Disgusting!

The fox news reporter made it clear last night that the Queen had asked for the iPod

But sadly, it's squashed.

That is funny because when I had Fox on during the day, they said that the Queen already had an IPOD, and purchased one at the behest of her son Prince Andrew. Gee, ya think they might be covering for him?
Anyway, the book was a nice but an IPOD? Please, it was not her birthday. It is clear as day that the Obama’s and their entire staff have the mentality of 16 yr. olds. They have no clue about history or protocol.

I am not kidding about that reporter. He made a point of saying the Queen requested it. He said something about her wanting some features that her current iPod does not have. If that is the case, then we are jumping the gun like liberals do. Let us get the facts first and comment on them later.

NO NO NO NO
To: moXXXXXXoots
I believe the reporter said it but don’t you think it is odd that the Queen would request a gift, that is certainly not polite and besides why would she not just go buy one?
Obama’s moron aides probably dropped that little tidbit because AGAIN they were exposed as fools. It is unfortunate that we have to be so suspect of the media where Obama is concerned.

One more time---with a source! How novel!

The ipod was loaded with the Queen's favorites song written by Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Not that much different than this:
Tom, from NY writes:
What is the best gift given to The President? Have you kept any for yourself?
Donald Ensenat
It is a custom for a visiting leader to give gifts to the President and Mrs. Bush, as well as to the American officials who have assisted in the preparations for their visit. We do the same when the President visits overseas. The Gift Officers in my office propose and purchase gifts for the President to give when he visits overseas, and receives and distributes the gifts that foreign leaders give when they visit. These exchanges are generally done "protocol-to-protocol" meaning the American and foreign gift officers arrange to meet during the visit and exchange the gifts. Occasionally, the President or the visiting leader want to give their gift personally. One of the most memorable is when the President gave then Prime Minister Koizumi of Japan a jukebox with 50's and 60's rock and roll records because the Prime Minister is a huge Elvis Presley and rock and roll fan. The President also took the Prime Minister to Graceland - one of the more unusual visits by a foreign leader.

Makes sense. People are always upgrading. Why should the Queen be any different.
