Alaska Republicans are tearing each other apart. It's the type of entertainment that you can only find in a state over-run by corruption and stupidity in the style of Sarah Palin. Governor Palin, with all of her infinite wisdom, has called for the resignation of duly elected Senator Mark Begich, now that Ted Stevens has had all Federal charges withdrawn. Never mind that former Senator Stevens has not been exonerated in any way, shape or form. Sister Sarah just felt as though she needed to add her two cents, maybe as a ruse to take attention off of herself and her family troubles which have taken on a new life in the media, thanks to her daughter and the boy who fathered her illegitimate child.
From TPM:
Congressman Don Young has broken from the calls by Sarah Palin and the Alaska Republican Party, who say that Democratic Sen. Mark Begich should resign because he was only elected through the botched prosecution against Sen. Ted Stevens. After Stevens was convicted of several felony counts, Begich went on to narrowly win the election -- but now the Justice Department has dropped all the charges in light of prosecutorial misconduct. Young doesn't like the result, but it is what it is.
Young is going a bit further, however, and making a suggestion for another way that Ted Stevens could make a political comeback: Running for governor in 2010. This would presumably involve Stevens running against Sarah Palin, a giant of her state's politics. Now why would Young suggest such a thing?
"Personally I'd like to see him run for governor, and that's my personal feeling," Young said yesterday. "So, we'll see what happens down the line. He probably won't, but I think that would be a great way to cap off a great career as being the governor of the state of Alaska."
Don't ya just love the circular firing squad? Alaska's version of a dysfunctional Republican "Family Feud"! I have to admit, the thought of convicted felon Ted Stevens, at 85 years old running against one of the biggest liars (stars) in the Republican upper tier would just warm the cockles of my heart. I can just see the lies and distortions being spewed by each of them. Can you imagine which one of these two dolts would "out-Jesus" each other? The competition would be fast and furious.
Imagine this if you will:
Palin: "I said thanks, but no thanks to that 'Bridge to Nowhere', and to some of that nasty Obama stimulus money for Alaska."
Stevens: "I said thanks, and thanks again for the renovations to my 'Chalet', and hell yes to every dollar I could possibly wring out of the Federal Government for Alaska."
I honestly prefer Stevens, the unabashed felon, to the lying fraud Pinnochio Palin.
