Sea level rise will be one of the most destructive effects of climate change, so naturally, Deniers have something grossly in error to say about it.
We'll look, as always, at the source documents.

Sea level rise.
It's been the subject of myth, legend and pop culture for millenia.

It is going to be one of the major destructive effects of global climate change.
So naturally, its something that makes deniers do and say crazy things.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:

(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

    It's damned near unreadable.

the right wing nut jobs can't even get excited by what is right on the horizon

it maybe the rejection of science

just finished James K. Galbraith "The Predator State: How Conservatives Abandoned the market and why the liberals should to."

It is a macro economics book with a lot of insight. The conservatives are against science. To repeat what happened in the new deal and in WWII, science and engineering must become more important.

Climate deniers are the ones who want to protect the status quo of the oil and coal based economy. It will take planning to get out of that. But planning is only done by the DOD these days.

Are the nut jobs indication the end of their reign or are the disasters going to happen fast enough that they wake up?

The financial disaster is less than the climate disaster, but it is here now and many are suffering.

I could go on for a lot longer, but I'll stop.

    Thanks for the diary.

They probably would look at the receding of the water right before a tsunami and point - look there is no rise in the sea!

And "average" means some rises are higher, and some lower. The average depth of a pool may only be three feet, but that doesn't mean you can safely wade across.

A lot of places are going to be in deeeeep trouble.

  •  Bravo. (0+ / 0-)

    Very well done.

On the other hand, I have yet to hear a convincing explanation as to why the right wing is so committed to anti-science on the climate issue.  Religious explanations only go so far.  Corporate economy explanations only go so far.  How the whole right wing can be so adamantly antagonistic to science on this issue simply defies explanation.

    •  I think the religious thing is closest (0+ / 0-)

It's not so much a particular religion as simply the general attitude of right wingers that man is somehow special at the center of the universe, and that their lives have no meaning if that's not true.
So I think it strikes fear into them on a subconscious level, and that accounts for the ferocity of the denial.
We are in a fight for survival, and all of us that have access to the facts must spread them as widely as possible.
