The Last Person on Earth Will Carry an Assault Rifle
At the October 2008 gun show, said one of the organizers of the Jungle Walk ($35 for an Uzi and a stroll through a path of pop-up targets), "it was like a McCain-Palin rally in here. It felt like we were going to win. Then you know what happened."
Ever since the election of President Barack Obama, gun store owners have reported massive increases in sales of firearms and ammunition. Attendees and sellers at Knob Creek can confirm that. Ron Hansen, a retiree from Michigan, grumbles that the ammunition supply at the show has "declined dramatically" since the displays of only a year ago. Myron Moore, a seller making a brisk trade in pistols and clips, explains that sales spiked right after the election and have slipped only a little because people worry this will be their last chance to stock up. "I’m selling everything Obama’s trying to ban," he laughs.
Paranoid much?
What it is with wingnuts and guns I can only speculate, but limited intellectual curiosity coupled with moral retardation goes a long way in "solving for this particular"X"". And the description of the event as a "McCain-Palin Rally" solidifies my perspective that the bulk of "gun nuts" are republicans, which implies a sort of intellectual shortfall.
Very Paranoid
Referring to the recent massacre in upstate New York, where one guy with 2 high-tech handguns pumped 85-90 rounds into people inside of 90 seconds or something stunning like that:
Alan, a registered nurse from Illinois, asks whether last week’s massacre in Binghamton, N.Y. was a set-up. "How many government shooters or special ops teams," he asks, "how many guys were in there killing people just so they could make gun owners look bad?" He’s not convinced by media reports about the massacre, especially because the shooter killed himself. "These people always kill themselves. They’re either mind-controlled or they’re set up."
Alan says that he gets the real story on the threat to gun-owners from Mark Koernke, the militia leader who hangs around the show until the end, wearing Swiss camouflage and carrying copies of "How to Start and Train a Militia Unit."
Now, it is true, that during the 8 terrible years of the Bush Administration I was not alone in speculating about the worst possible things a government could do, and I don't think I went too far, given the outrageous shit Team Bush pulled. It was not paranoia to speculate that this criminal administration, one packed with high-paid liars and rightwing ideologues would do nefarious things. We will be learning about their outrages for years.
But to suggest that the Federal Government - particularly under Obama - wants to ban guns and would stage mass murders like this to accomplish such an aim, is stretching it just a bit.
IF the feds wanted to ban guns, they'd just do it. Who would stop them? They ban a simple fucking weed, so yeah, they can ban your gun. They would just do it.
2nd Amendment you say?
Hard-ee-har-har. That's a good one. I never tire of it.
Contrary to popular misconceptions, the 2nd Amendment does not exist on its own, outside our Reality like one of Plato's forms.
It's actually part of a piece of paper called "The Constitution" and the US Government and the Republican party and the Big Corporations who fund them hate this piece of paper.
Since at least Nixon's day, they have waged war against it, trying to find all manner of reasons to limit or liquidate the importance and the scope of this "Constitution". Thank your war on drugs for this.
With the PATRIOT Act, they more or less finished the job on the Constitution. They just have no desire to really take people's guns. Guns aren't nearly as powerful as people's ability to organize and speak out, which has been damaged severely.
Gun nuts appear to think that the 2nd Amendment will live on after the rest of their rights have been disappeared. The rest of our rights have been disappearing but people can still buy guns so they don't seem to care. They can touch their precious gun and feel it. "I am still fee" they think, dreamily.
These bozos who howl and whine that their precious AK-47's - or whatever - will save them from the local constabulary are daft at best.
I laugh my ass off at these folks sometimes, hearing their fucking fantasies about how they'll hole up in their homes, stocked with food and ammo and fight off the government.
They apparently haven't seen drug raids, something in which American police specialize. They are very well-funded and have an ever-increasing inventory of used military items, which they are very proud to display. There are drug raids all the time, so I am unsure how they have not grasped that the po-lice will simply show up with their spiffy military assault vehicles and bomb the shit out of their home, kill them all, and trash their reputations in the complicit media. They will be "terrorists" and "extremists" and plain old "criminals".
I know a word, which all gun nuts can recite like a Bible verse, that SHOULD tell them how they will end up: Waco.
Those people had LOTS of weapons.
The government rolled in tanks and burnt them down, people and all, and the Government will do that to any and all gun nuts who hole up in their homes if and when a gun ban (which ain't gonna happen) is implemented.
2 words: Ruby Ridge.
4 words: you will not prevail. Or, if you prefer, Your ass is grass.
Hezbollah you are not...
Recently I have had people cite Hezbollah as an example of what a ragtag group of people can do against the most heavily militarized onslaught possible.
And that is a fair suggestion at face value, however, how many of our gun-kissing wingnuts have rockets, rocket launchers, and the like? Hezbollah had far more firepower than any single family-protecting person here is going to have. If they did, it's the Waco treatment for them. Citing this example is simply not realistic. Please refer to Waco.
Fast-forward to End Times: the last person on earth might be carrying an assault rifle, but it will no more useful then than it is now, maybe even less useful since there will be no more people to kill with it.
That is all they are for.
But, enough of that: Nobody is going to ban your precious goddamned guns.
And for the love of God: stop listening to Glen Fucking Beck.
Update [2009-4-9 10:55:34 by xxdr zombiexx]: Clarification: For those who cannot seem to grasp this, I shall spell it out: I am not calling all gun owners "gun-crazed". It's disheartening to have to explain this to Kossacks, but so be it. Many people own guns, the vast majority of these people are NOT "crazed" nor do I personally consider them to be a problem. Click the link and understand it is "those people" I am specifically referencing. I can't make it any clearer.
Update [2009-4-9 14:41:27 by xxdr zombiexx]: Whoa! Check out my spiffy new hate mail! You ain't jack til you start getting hate mail!
You liberal pussy cowards are the ones who are paranoid about guns, you need to be.
There was an accompanying e-mail blathering on about Obama kissing the ass of Saudi Arabia, or some crap like that. He called Obama "pond scum swine". As if The Bush Family didn't sell America out to the Saudis....
Wingnuts. And yes, I would be more than happy to provide whomever is interested with the e-mail address.
Update [2009-4-9 17:57:45 by xxdr zombiexx]: After reading comments and mulling this over, I elected to remove "Americans" from the title as this may be what accounts for how some people's perception is that I somehow intend to slander all gun owners. I don't agree with gun bans as they would be another form of prohibition far more dangerous than the prohibition you see now. I am not intending to slander gun owners in general; not by a long shot. I owned guns as a child and young adult; I have been hunting, I support hunting. I have participated in many deer hunts, etc... I don't own guns now.
The point is that I do think that some people take this "right to own guns" bit too seriously and have elevated it to a religion. I think it is related to a cluster of other social issues we face, but the single biggest problem is the rightwing values echo chamber spreading misinformation and...well.. hate. I don't have a better word for it. - Doc
