Sam passed away last night. Sam is a cat who changed my daughter's life. This story is in many ways more about the blogger who belonged to Sam than the cat himself, I am surprisingly saddened at the passing of a cat I never met in real life. Sam came to live with Ntodd in 2003 and my daughter and I began following him sometime later in the year. Ntodd's memorial to Sam is here: http://www.dohiyimir.org/...
As I stated in the above paragraph, my daughter and I followed Sam. My daughter was 3 years old when we started checking Dohiyimir everyday for pictures of Sam. One day there was a picture of Sam dipping his paw into a vase of flowers and my child made up a lovely story about what Sam was doing. I emailed the unknown blogger, told him the story and asked if I could purchase the photo from him for my then 3 year old. Amazingly, Sam mailed the picture to my little one with a personal note attached.
My then almost 4 year old became pin pals with a cat in Vermont. When she got her first cat, she emailed Sam. When she started Kindergarten she mailed him her school picture. She sent him Christmas cards. Sam always replied. When her cat Lola, was brutally murdered by a dog that got out and came on our front porch, Sam sent her a condonlence card. Ntodd named his next cat Lola after our beloved cat.
Sam's picture, the one my daughter made a story about, hangs in my daughter's room over her bed. Sam was her first cat really, even though he lived in Vermont. Last night Sam passed away in Ntodd's arms. I am so very saddened by his passing. I am so very sad for Ntodd. Through Sam, Ntodd changed lives and I know he is suffering today and I am so very sorry for him and his loved ones.
I know this is not even about about someone who writes here; but it is about a blogger who took the time to be kind to a child whose imagination was captivated by his cat, Sam. People like that are few and far between and he and Sam should be lauded and remembered.
God Speed Sam.
