I've seen nothing about this in the MSM, but early this morning someone climbed down a manhole on Blossom Hill Road in South San Jose, CA and cut four fiber optics cables. This has brought down the phone service in San Jose and Santa Cruz counties. Also this morning, two cables were cut in San Carlos
I live in the Santa Cruz area and was trying to call my main office in San Clemente all morning and getting "all circuits are busy" messages. I figured it would clear up but it lasted for hours. Then I tried calling New Hampshire and the same thing. The local media, The San Francisco Chronicle and the San Jose Mercury, are covering it, but I have seen nothing yet on the national media. Here is a link to the Chronicle coverage Sabotage Attacks
I seem to have heard that there is a labor dispute going on, but I am expecting this to be spun as a terrorist attack with Republican "I told you so's" and all the rest. If you have been trying to phone acquaintances or family in the Bay area, this is what has happened. I am not in a position to get many more details except that I was able to call the East Coast (not locally) on my Verizon cell phone for a very scratchy conversation. Cell service in the are is spotty and all the ATM machines are off line as well. Whoever did this apparently knew exactly what he/she was doing.
