With all the wingnuts (Beck, Bachmann, etc.) calling for insurrections, do we really need a local tavern offering free guns?
Living in Las Vegas is different from any place I've lived. But even for me, this takes the cake.
As someone who grew up with guns and owned several during different times in my life, even I have issues with this promotion.
You can't stand on any street corner and throw a rock without hitting a business with gaming inside. It's so pervasive in Las Vegas it's become wallpaper. Every grocery store, convenience store, gas station, car wash, bar, and restaurant in town has a row of machines. But, offering a free gun for winning two royal flushes in 30 days is a new low.
Leaving alone the mix of alcohol, gambling, and guns, there some serious questions that need to be asked.
If it's a giveaway does the recipient have to complete a gun background check before receiving the weapon? They are not really purchasing after all.
What kind of liability is the Tavern opening themselves up to? How would you like to be on the wrong end of that lawsuit? Imagine the consequences if it was used in a violent crime.
What does it say about us as a society?
Granted, the chances of actually hitting two royal flushes playing video poker in 30 days is pretty low. But, that's beside the point when considering this establishment is a local chain with gaming pubs all over town.
This particular location is next to the 215 freeway on the west-side of Las Vegas. Most of the homes around it were built with-in the last five years, and most of them are upside down on their mortgages.
Just what we need, disgruntled homeowners winning free guns.
Personally, going to a tavern that attracts the kind of people this promotion is geared to is not my idea of a fun night out.
