I have accepted that not everyone here at the Daily Kos is a Democrat. I wasn't always one myself. And I know plenty of people who are not Democrats, and that is not a problem at all. It is no more of a problem than it is for my more liberal friends. I myself am probably somewhere around the center or center-left of the political spectrum. I don't know any good instruments of measurement to be certain.
I am not an ideologue. I'm a partisan. And I'm a partisan because what I do know without a doubt about ideology is that the ideology of modern-day American conservatism has failed, and will only continue to fail.
Perhaps I am morally flexible. I think that what works is right, and that what is right is not always what works. As much as I admire those who strive for purity in their ideology and conviction, I myself have never been capable of completely giving myself to a set of ideas or ideals. What I do know is that I can completely give myself to the fight against the angry mob of the far-right.
The far-right has misguided the nation and left us encircled. Economic turmoil, a failing educational system, an unacceptable energy situation, a broken health-care system, an inability to deal with the immigration crisis(yes, it is a crisis to have millions "living in the shadows"), terrorism, Mexico's struggles, a continuing of the failed-strategy in Cuba, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, Pakistan, Darfur, etc. etc. etc. And those are the issues of government. What the far-right has believed to be right has not worked. The results speak for themselves, no matter how much conservatives try to disown George W. Bush.
When it comes to politics, and not government, I believe what is right is what works. Most of you all do too, I imagine. The far-right "Ditto-heads" of this country do not. With regard to our political process, the far-right believes what works is what is right. It is this attitude that has brought us Atwater, Rove, Bachmann, Ailes, Coulter, Murdoch, Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, a Department of Injustice, fears of the demographic-trend that is bringing this country closer and closer to a highly-diverse nation, conspiracy theories revolving around ACORN and other city-oriented organizations, and so on. This is how they can, after 8 years of disaster, raise their tone to their current levels after only months of Barack Obama's fast-paced and results-oriented Presidency.
What about you?
