I was never a very pretty girl growing up. I had lots of freckles, wore glasses, short curly hair and was very short
I got bullied at school a lot. I didn't fit in with the normal crowd. I was shy. I hung out with the "rejects". Never had a boyfriends.
One day i finally snapped and punched someone who was bullying me. Now I don't recommend violence but I was not bullied at all after that.
What really pisses me off about people and society in general is the fact that we are obsessed with appearances. I Include myself in this as well. I find myself judging people when I know full well its wrong and cruel.
One would think after going through the experiences that I did that I would know better but it doesn't always work out that way.
So when I watched this video of Susan Boyle last night I found myself thinking what everyone else was thinking, that she was a crazy old lady about to embarrass herself.
I am so ashamed of myself. Even if it had turned out that she could not sing, it was wrong to judge someone like that. In any case, she stunned the hell out of me. I have listened to a lot of musicals and she can sing with the best of them.
Here is the lino to the video (all the embeds seem to be disabled)
http://www.youtube.com/...
I have watched it at LEAST 2o times today and it gets better with every viewing.
The Audiences reactions were interesting as well. You can see numerous shots of some of them scoffing and sneering. Watch as their looks turn to astonishment as she sings. I hope those people are ashamed of themselves.
Age and appearance are not a good indicator of talent. All human beings are good at something whether they fit into society's standards of beauty or not.
Susan Boyle has a gift. And screw the people who think only beauty and youth are the standard for society to hold up as models to be admired.
Susan Boyle was also bullied as a child becuase of her learning disabilities. Bullies are cowards who have their own issues to deal with and so they pick on people who seem weaker.
I guess I can identify with Susan becuase I know what its like to be judged and bullied.
Bloody Brilliant and when she comes out with a cd, I will be the first to buy it.
