Yesterday, a random collection of FOX NEWS constituents, racists, libertarians and anarchists gathered in protest loosely arranged around the idea of anti-tax. Left out was the left... and that was a mistake.
Instead of hoping for lowered numbers or mass confusion, liberals had the opportunity to add to the confusion and push our agenda. Using our well-oiled community organizational skills, we should have been there and could have taken it over. Imagine if the cameras panned to people with Obama/Hope shirts protesting off-shore tax shelters, corporate tax giveaways, tax cuts for the wealthy, regressive tax policies.
It's important to draw a distinction between this and a counter-protest. Conservatives were usually good for a counter-protest and would get a few seconds of air-time to rebut the larger progressive rally. But we can do better. If we were to connect with the media, we could make sure our message got as much if not more air time (on Non-Fox News outlets, of course) such that the average TV viewer would at worse generally be confused about the overall message (more so than already) and at best even view the whole thing as a progressive rally.
It's obviously too late for yesterday (Give me a break, I just thought of this this morning), but I'm sure there will be more to come. I thought I heard the right is already planning for the 4th of July. It could be time to start our own Operation KaOS.
