My brother is an intelligent man. Sure, he’s conservative (he’s a banker...what else could he be), but he’s not lock-step with the wackos who have taken over the Republican Party. He’s also onboard with the need for alternative energy—he’s gung-ho over a plan for us to pool our money with like-minded people to build windmills. So a conversation we had over Christmas caught me off guard.
"You know what happened," he said. "George Soros was pumping billions into speculation on oil prices, and it drove them up, which in turn started the economic collapse." I didn’t know where to begin. George Soros? He’s the bogeyman of the Right, and I have little doubt that he got that information from Faux News. But my own brother? His words are just the tip of the iceberg of the accusations making the rounds.
I’ve heard Soros’ name come up repeatedly every time something bad happens. He’s been linked to spying on the States, price gouging, and derivative trading (though there is never any real evidence presented). He’s alleged to have helped fund misinformation campaigns against the war effort, he’s given aid to Al Jazeera to discredit President Bush overseas, and he’s bankrupted the Big Three by helping the unions get ludicrous wages that approach 1/1000 of what the CEO makes. Don’t forget, Soros is the grand puppetmaster of the Democratic Party. His billions launched MoveOn and keep ACORN in business. Whatever is wrong with our country, the conservatives blame George Soros’ omnipotence.
But not everyone is familiar with George Soros. They do know (via Fox News), however, about the damage caused by MoveOn. Their ad questioning the veracity of General Petraeus’ testimony apparently disheartened our military, making it next to impossible to find the WMDs hidden in the desert or secreted off to Syria. Never mind the accidental killing of loved ones by a stray bomb—it was MoveOn that inspired the Iraqi insurgents to take up arms against us. They are to blame for pushing the liberal media to ask those mean questions of Sarah Palin. They didn’t respect John McCain the war hero, instead questioning his gut-check decision making amidst the beginnings of the economic meltdown. MoveOn hates America, and it has fleeced the media and the American people. They poured money into ACORN to get all of those people to commit voter fraud.
Or is it ACORN? ACORN was out before the election, submitting voter registrations for Mickey Mouse and Bart Simpson. ACORN bussed thousands of ineligible voters (never mind the reasons that they may or may not actually have been ineligible) in to vote for Barack Hussein Obama. First they helped bring down Hillary, then they helped bring down McCain. Now they’ve put their weight behind the bailout, pushing President Obama to retroactively coerce President Bush into getting TARP passed. They brought down Senator Coleman through voter fraud.
It wasn’t an unpopular war coupled with a more just but now seemingly unwinnable war that hurt the Republicans. It wasn’t fraud, mismanagement, and malfeasance that did them in, nor was it a plummeting economy brought about by loosening of oversight for short term gain. It wasn’t the Peter Principle at its worst, as demonstrated by failure to heed the warnings preceding 9/11 or to respond to the disaster of Katrina. No, it was the nebulous triumvirate of Soros, MoveOn, and ACORN that did them in and aims to do the same to the country. Anything for which they have no explanation to benefit their party must be the fault of one or all of the three: GeorgeSoros/MoveOn/ACORN of the Gaps.
