So those of us in NY-20 now know that we will not be "going from ice cream to horse manure" in terms of our representative in the House. I don't know if Murphy will be as great a representative as Gillibrand, but I have high hopes for him. Certainly his unabashed embracing of Obama's economics and EFCA can only be considered encouraging
The purpose of this diary is to simply say thank you to everyone who helped with this election, especially those who did not live in the district. Seneca Doane and Ken in Texas deserve especial accolades, but there were many others who contributed time and money and while I can only speak for myself, I think all of us who are residents of NY-20 are deeply grateful that so many without a direct stake in the election put so much into it.
When I first heard that Gillibrand had been appointed Senator, I was not looking forward to having to fight to keep this district blue again so soon. I had just put a lot into the reelection effort and initially really wasn't psyched to fight in what I knew would be a much harder struggle.
But the gratification now is tremendous. I am going to drink a 17-ounce Sapporo beer that has been in the fridge since March 31, the day of the special election, that was intended for either celebrating or giving consulation. I couldn't use it for either until now.
While I am at it, I will also celebrate 4/20 a little late!
