Inspired by an earlier diary entitled What Are You Reading?, I thought I'd post this as a good 'Friday diary' aka a 'Fridiary'.
I'm intrigued by the Amazon Kindle, an e-book that stores literally hundreds of books. It's a wireless device that allows the owner to order and download, within a minute, entire book titles.
The Kindle also says that a reader can order and download daily newspapers and ( get this ) blogs!
The thing is priced at over $350, but apparently there are no monthly fees other than the books you actually purchase & download, around $10 each book.
From what I've heard the screen is designed to be so effective at eliminating glare that the promotional video at Amazon.com shows a woman reading one on the beach on a bright sunny day.
It's about the size of a regular book, thin, weighs about 10 oz, and has navigation buttons to page forward, backward, bookmark, look up words, and so forth.
Take the poll, and I'm interested to hear from anyone who owns or has firsthand knowledge of e-books, whether a Kindle or other model, what their experience has been, advantages, disadvantages, positives/negatives, developments, things to be aware of/watchful about, and so forth.
I am a voracious reader with an extensive home library that I'm always "culling" (except for certain books that I'll never part with, for one reason or another).
A true e-book, with a high-quality screen that is truly no-glare, and that would permit wide-ranging access to potentially hundreds of thousands of complete books really would appeal to me.
If the Kindle price were, say $199, I'd probably have one by now.
Going on trips, or just roaming around the area, it would be so cool to have a 10-oz device that would permit me access to any book I had, instead of lugging around a dozen heavy books on a vacation or other trip.
I'd love if many people would participate in the poll and anyone with e-book experience would take the time to share your thoughts.
I'm not posting a link to any products because this isn't about advertising, this is simply an inquiry from a potential user who's interested in others' experiences with e-books.
