This is an excellent essay. Written by Gary Kamiya, it can be found at Salon.com.
A caveat: this is not a diary per se. Rather this is meant to promote dialogue and reflection. I would ask that you read the short, one-page piece and then come back to opine, discuss, argue, what you will.
My opinion after the fold.
I agree with the oldest of my youngest sons who put it like this, using the analogy of comic books and super heroes. He said, "We're the good guys because we follow the rules. And we're not afraid to admit we are wrong. It's the bad guys who are always 'right'. Always. No reflection."
Simplistic? You think? But maybe this is one of those issues, yes/no, right/wrong. How do we fight our enemies without becoming them? In any event, I welcome your considered opinions.
Post scriptum: Also worth watching is the latest Bill Moyers Journal, and the corollary web exclusive. in which Bruce Fein, legal scholar, and Mark Danner, journalist, help Bill Moyers explore some of the political and legal implications for President Obama.
PPS: Went back in, hopefully fixed the Salon.com link, at least it worked for me when I clicked on it.
