and to a lesser extent poor people.
We'd like to explain to you why we Can Not possibly prosecute George Bush and Dick Cheney for war crimes.
You see, in America we have a finely tuned judicial system. And we've spent hundreds of years tweaking every facet of that system to protect the right people
Yes we know the criticisms. Equal justice for all. Rule of law. All that. But brown and poor people (who i will refer to as the bropos) should our legal system truely be the opposite of everything america stands for?
Consider for a moment that America serves, and regularly goes to war for, a system that rewards those with the most wealth .. with more wealth. And those with nothing.. are rewarded with nothing. In fact they are blamed for all the problems that some people say are caused by the plutocrats who make the decisions. And if that system is worth killing for.. shouldnt we maintain it across the board.
And of course we must consider leadership. In america we put nearly insurmountable barriers between the lower classes and positions of power or leadership. From Recruiting from prosecutors offices to class distinctions to ivy league preferences and on and on we go to any extreme to keep the upperclasses in power. And if we put all that effort in to keep the working classes out of power.. how can we then imprison them? Shouldnt they continue to recieve the preference they recieve throughout their lives once they have attained power and broken the law? Sure George Bush was an alchoholic and a cocaine addict. But can we compare a megawealthy young man using possibly ounces of powdered cocaine and risking peoples lives to say.. a young black man with a gram of rock cocaine?
Next of course there is the fact that those who committed political nonos (who were they young poor black males would be called perpetrators but we must use the correct term for upperclass white folk) are not brown (or poor). Do we after centuries of constructing a judicial system that is more likely to investigate, arrest, prosecute and give an extreme sentence to a brown person than a white person. Are we to throw that away now? Centuries of building a system based entirely around race and class at a moments notice?
Lastly of course is the most powerful argument. The DC/NY power hub is a very sensitive culture. A culture in which the mere mention of a missing white girl can bring the nation to a halt, where the wrong people having sex can cause a constitutional crisis. Should we upset those people? The mere thought of prosecuting one of their corporate masters brings terror upon the corporate media establishment. Why if we can Prosecute Bush and Cheney... we may well even punish those who may have committed journalistic treason by having sex with and promoting the agenda of a foreign leader. The chattering class are a nervous and easily startled flock. Should we risk the mental health of the people who spent so much effort leading us into Iraq? Who put so much effort into what their masters desired by prosecuting one of those very masters?
No my friends we simply cannot have it. To punish the plutocrats as you would a mere lower class shoplifter? A DWB? We cannot have it. And if you dont believe me simply ask the pundits and 'journalists' manning the barricades at the decaying mainstream media.
