Now I have some sympathies [albeit limited] with the right wing of the republican party as far as feeling isolated is concerned. As many here have noted I am a moonbat on the left wing of the Democratic Party and tend to have an idealistic streak a mile wide. This is about the only similarity we have.
Now flicking through the right wing blogs as I sometimes do for a good giggle and a WTF every now and then, I see a pattern appearing.
"We are losing support because we are not crazy enough" well that is my interpretation of their screams and I'm sticking to it.
Some want to return to St Ronnie, what they really means is promoting the Talibangelical message of the party and will drive themselves into a political rapture.
Others want to return to Goldwater type republicanism, and will only end up choking on their teabags.
What they all nearly fail to realise is that they must modernise their party or they will continue to howl in the political wilderness, they really need to connect and find some new ideas.
What they also fail to do is persuade, the only way I can get some of my views across on the left is by persuasion, if it doesn't work try a different tact. The wingnuts cannot abide descension due to their authoritarian mindset.
I'm afraid they all have fallen for that conservative myth:
Once upon a time in white America everyone could live the American dream whilst government was drowning in the bath; there was no crime, no taxes, women stayed at home, guns grew on trees and liberty trumped equality
Interesting comparison of core principles by a conservative website

Modern Liberalism
1. Belief in positive law
2. Faith in progress
3. Preference for equality over liberty
4. Belief in the benevolence of government and individuals
5. Belief in the perfectibility of human beings
6. Belief in the community
The Definition of Conservative
1. Belief in natural law
2. Belief in established institutions
3. Preference for liberty over equality
4. Suspicion of power—and of human nature
5. Belief in exceptionalism
6. Belief in the individual
Most people myself included believe in a mix of these principles, I lean towards a more libertarian stance than many democrats and yet also believe government can be good if it does the will of the people. I believe minorities should be protected from the majority by means of assuring equality.
The wingnuts however have left this wide consensus and have adopted the Limbaugh and Talibangelical definition of conservatism.
Modern wingnut conservatism.
- Christianity is the only religion, everyone else is evil and god especially hates teh gay.
- Women have no rights over there own body, and should be regarded as possessions.
- No taxes are allowed on the rich or corporations, wealth will magically trickle down.
- Liberty means owning a gun and god bless the NRA.
- Government is bad unless we are in power forever.
- Individualism applies only to 'conservatives' everyone else must obey.
Oh and btw Obama is African American and African is the important part..Kenya even.. and he is a Muslim.. and not American so...he can't be President because... because.... oh my god .....tin foil......shiny....whimper...
Basically the rule of law only applies to white male 'conservatives' and the rest of us should just be grateful that they are so wonderful and understanding. [Rush being their role model for all things patriotic and macho, oh ick.]
It's no wonder they are about as popular as a colonoscopy.
The NCNA might be their last hope at appearing centrist, its no wonder the wingnuts are howling, Romney, McCain et al might be odious to some but they are mild compared to what makes up the small republican base at the moment.
I found this ad somewhat sickly sweet and wretched when I remembered their attitude during the Bush years.
Even the NCNA doesn't get it, and the republicans are going to be on thee fringe for a very long time.
Psst.. we joined the conversation and kicked you out.
The only one that seems to really get the message from the American people is:
Olympia Snowe should be their leader, then and only then will they stand a chance of having a political future.
She is very worried and when a politician of her standing sounds a warning then the rest of them should listen. Snowe has more backbone than Specter and is willing to fight within in her own party. I think she is fighting a lost cause and the GOP will become a regional party.
We need political balance in this country, the GOP cannot give us that since they refuse to leave the 1800's.
meanwhile I will take enormous pleasure in watching the Republicans reap their just rewards.
It is indeed an "Epic Fail".
Oh and the new Freeper Anthem just for a kicker and a snicker.
We must take America back?
From what?
A democratically elected government?
Sorry but I found it hilarious.
