Race, and culture in the post Obama, America
With last weeks 100 Days celebrations and consternation's, the topic of race relations popped for about 20 seconds. I am very proud of White America, for it's choice of Brother Obama. There is a real feeling social equality and social responsibility growing in our nation. So please take the following as the tiny, social irk that it is. Please consider this my token for better racial understanding: To my unknown white male friends. STOP CALLING BLACK MEN YOU DON'T KNOW BRO!!! The phrase Brother, Bro, even Bra denotes familiarity that frankly; if I don't know you, we don't have! If we know each other; no worries no complaints. It's actually a complement that I share and celebrate. But for the guy walking by at the bar, the guy passing by thanking me for holding a door open for a sec, or standing next to me in line at the bank asking "what's up?"...Please understand you come off as that guys who tries to drop the occasional slang phrase to their tween niece or nephew. You do not come off as hip, cool, fly or down with hip hop culture!! The initial knee jerk feelings is similar to every time African Americans see and listen to Micheal Steele; it's strange mix of queasy saddest and anger. To quote Kent Jones you come off as "Weak" This a PSA "Please Stop At once!!"
