The man who provided this video WAS TORTURED for not turning it over to the UAE
Please encourage those people you know who support torture to watch this video.
The incidents depicted in these ----- are not a pattern of behavior.
Guess who said this? Was it
A. The Bush Administration
B. The United Arab Emirates
If you answered B above, you are correct!
The fact that you weren't certain right off the bat shows exactly how bad things have gotten, and how much worse it will get if we do not bring the Bush/Cheney regime to justice.
This is what the Republicans are arguing FOR.
This is what the Republicans want the power to do.
This is why they can not be allowed to have that power, under all costs.
A hat tip goes to joy sinha who wrote a diary last week with a link to this footage, titled ABC News Exclusive Have a Torture Tape Implicating UAE Royal Sheikh.
Why is the UAE considered one of our allies?
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
How are we better than our enemies if we use the same barbaric ends to our means?
Wasn't the UAE thisclose to getting control of our Port Security under Ex-President George W. Bush?
Why?
According to the UAE, the man being beaten with a board with a nail in it, who had sand stuffed down hos throat and salt rubbed into his wounds, who was ran over repeatedly with a car, among other atrocities, had this done to him because he was . . .
Investigated by police for bribery in the farming operation
According to teh UAE Minister of the Interior, who is one of Sheikh Issa's brothers, stated
All rules, policies and procedures were followed correctly by the police department.
Apparently, there is more than just one Jay Bybee in the world.
First we allow torture of terrorists, and then the line blurs and violence becomes the norm in our military, then it effects our police, and sooner or later it hits home, and you find yourself living in a nation where you can torture someone you think has cheated you in a deal, or something else. Once the line is blurred, it is nearly impossible to redraw it where it originally was.
Is this what the Republicans mean when they show "concern" over the whittling away of American values?
This is the line in the sand YOU DO NOT CROSS!
Whose side are we on, anyway?
Another hat tip goes to 19April1775 who inspired me to cover this news, which did not get enough press coverage, in my opinion.
Before we can criticize others we have to clean up our own mess.
If we do not fully investigate war crimes and torture and then give a prosecutor the full power to do his job, how are we any better than the Sheikh's and Tyrants who blatantly torture people?
How are we any safer from tyranny? Both foreign and domestic?
