I was perusing CNN.com while I was supposed to be doing my work, and read an article that got me a little fired up. Now I'm diary-ing about it (is that a word?) instead of doing my work.
Here is the article... "5 reasons GOP will rebound"
There is a huge disconnect between Republicanism in theory, "a party of small government", and a Republican in practice, "we are a party of small government unless it suits us."
While I wholeheartedly disagree with numbers 1-4, it's what we in communications call "bulls--t", but it is #5 that really stood out as contradictory and hypocritical.
Here is what the author said...
The Republican Party is the de facto Libertarian Party:
...They tend to want government to stay out of their lives as much as possible.
Hmmm, gay marriage? warrantless wiretapping? choice? Scalia's blown gasket over privacy issues? Yup, sounds to me like Republicans really want government to stay out of people's lives.
If there's one thing that Republicans do well, it's regurgitating talking points. The only problem is, they have yet to find one that sticks. I don't know where CNN found this guy, but I would guess that he has some ties to the National Council for a New America.
As a communications consultant, I tell all my clients to accept what happened in the past and address it if necessary otherwise someone will call bulls--t and they'll be right back to where they started.
Yes, the Republican party will rebound someday, it's inevitable, but if they keep deluding themselves with the "party of small government" and young stars ready for the big time (if they don't offend Limbaugh), we'll be in the majority for a long, long time.
