I contributed $150 to an earlier ad by move on, but their latest attempt has me horrified. It is in some respects WORSE than the Betrayus ad.
The ad portrays two people in a funeral parlor complaining that a Public Plan Option would result in "more healthy people living longer" and thus be a bad for the funeral industry!
Here is the ad:
The Funeral industry has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the health care debate. We ALL die, and most of us have been to many funerals. I have never met a person in the funeral business who was eager to have anyone die, as this ad implies. The ones I have dealt with have been kind, caring, careful, considerate and patient.
I encourage people NOT to support this ad, and to speak out against it whenever possible.
There are so MANY legitimate targets to attack, and this is NOT one of them.
It won't motivate anyone to support Obama's plan. What it will do is give the right wing a way to portray us as heartless idiots for claiming that ANYONE would want others to die sooner for the sake of profit. Even in those cases where it might be true, it would not be the funeral industry.
The best sign I have seen for this business is on I-94 through St Paul/Minneapolis.
It says something like "Slow down, drive carefully, we can wait".
What the heck is wrong with Move On today???
