"Empathy" is code word for "Activist Judge."
"Activist Judge" is code word for "Supports Roe v. Wade."
President Obama has made it clear that one of the criteria for an ideal candidate to replace Justice Souter of the Supreme Court is "empathy."
That's bad news, according to some. In fact, GOP officials and other conservative and Right-Wing talking heads are up in arms. "Empathy is a code word for... [fill in the blank]," they're warning.
We don't want an 'activist judge," they've made it clear. Just to make it clearer, "activist judge" is Wingers' code word for somebody who would support Roe v. Wade.
Of course it is. Empathy is liberals' core value. Fighting for people who can't help themselves, that's the difference between the Left and the Limbaugh contingency.
In a recent Politico article, Wingers spell out their worst fear of this new threat to Freedom: ""I may have empathy for, for the little guy in a fight with a big corporation, but the law may not be on his side. So I think that’s a concern," former Republican Party Chairman Ed Gillespie said on NBC’s 'Meet the Press.'"
Right. Here are a few examples Gillespie may cite regarding Supreme Court judges who interpreted the Constitution to disastrous results: When they said that Japanese-Americans were not entitled to the protection of their rights under the Constitution. When they appointed a president, thereby deeming a democratic election null and void. When they agreed that "separate but equal" was a fine, Constitutionally-sound policy. Feel free to add more examples at the Comment link below.
Heaven forbid we should end up with a judge who considers the human aspects of the law. Let them all base their interpretation of the law strictly on the base of what the U.S. was like in the 18th century. In fact, bring back slavery, take away women's votes, While you're at it, just do away with that pesky Bill of Rights.
