(As usual, I wrote a comment and realized by the time it was done it had become a diary so pardon me while I try this again...)
My wife and I gambled our lives on the simple premise that Howard Dean's message about standing up for our country was a timeless message.
Therefore, we exhausted everything we have to make a film about his campaign and the idea that the leadership doesn't come from one man, but from all of us who have the power to force change on the establishment.
We had no idea how far his message would resonate and therefore have struggled to keep up with the continuing message that the film will help resonate around the world...
I've spent a lot of time writing diaries here that sail down to the bottom that ask for your support.
We sold our land, our cars, and sacrificed vacations for the past 6 years to make the film for you--even if Dean wasn't your candidate in 2004.
Howard was left out of DC and it symbolized how powerful he is to create that kind of fear of him and the outsider DFHs.
Now, we are 24K away from completing the film to distribute it but my wife and I have lost jobs and are in a whole heap of debt because we can't sell the house and haven't found that one shining knight in armor yet to give us a fucking break.
We are getting people everyday who want the film but even asking people to pre-order is just a trickle when the costs of finishing it simply doesn't cover the fact that we need to pay for our kids rookie ball, t-ball, hockey (and yes, I'm suddenly the town fricking coach on all these things for the town's kids because I'm a sucker and care a lot), food, shelter clothing on a daily basis.
We have given all we can to stand up and make this film that leaves people motivated and asking what they can do to stand up like the people who stood up for Howard Dean and started the revolution.
We're barely standing now that she's lost her job and is wondering now why I led her down the crazy path of saving our democracy when our kids are suffering for being at risk.
There's plenty of info at http://thegrassrootsmovie.com to see that this is a very real film for people who want to be part of standing the fuck up.
Unfortunately, I have to confess I'm even starting to doubt whether or not this was the prudent thing to do. I hope I'm proven wrong--especially now that we know the folks at Democracy Fest this July in Burlington are going to screen, yet again (many festivals have screened the unfinished film because they support the message of standing the fuck up for your democracy), the unfinished film: Dean and Me: Roadshow of an American Primary.
Please help if you can at the donate page because we want to show you the people who had the courage to stand up in the first place. Like this guy:
