Ok. the reason Gay marriage is such a problem with the religious right is that in their minds "Marriage is sacred" This bond is so special that it can only be between a male and a female.
I want to apologize in advance for this being my lame attempt at this being a diary, but I thought my idea was worth the trouble of throwing it out there.
The reason Prop 8 failed in California was for a couple of reasons. In my opinion they had a horrible campaign with a confusing ballot measure. Yes on 8 No on 8 What one was for or against what ?
Yes on hate might have been a smarter way to go. The Mormon church put everything they had into fighting this. I ran into a couple of friends that happen to mention prop 8 to me way before it was time to vote. I am a married straight white guy, so they figured I would be apposed to gay people getting married. I simply responded that I felt marriage should be a punishment that all people should be entitled to. I am actually happily married. I was actually surprised that these people were politically involved at all. So if these friends of mine were so involved with campaigning on prop 8 how deep did this go? Pretty much 100% with the Mormon church. They were organized and had everything they needed to help defeat prop 8 They won. Prop 8 lost in California. Marriage is so special, so sacred that it can only be between a man and a woman.
Really? Why is it that some married couples end up in a divorce within a couple of years? Why can all of these couples get divorced twice, three times, four times? It's not really so special after all.
I was wondering if there was a way to start a new prop and call it the "pro marriage" campaign where divorce would become illegal. Outlaw divorce. Force the religious right to make "marriage sacred" so sacred that divorce is illegal, just as gay people getting married is not legal. ( In California any way.) How funny would that be to have religious people forced into backing up their own B.S.
