I just saw a headline story on DK about Chuck Grassley claiming that a public options for healthcare would be a bad idea, because government is so inefficient at running things, the Senate cafeteria was just outsourced to a private company.
Help me understand some things:
- Isn't Grassley a major participant of our government? Maybe if government operations are expensive and ineffectual, we should find some better people to run it!
- Are the same people who bemoan the government's ineptitude at running things (like welfare and healthcare) the same people who ask us to trust the government to conduct warrantless wiretaps, torture and tactical bombings in civilian regions? Which is it, are they capable and trustworthy, or are they incompetent screw-ups?
- Aren't members of congress already covered by a government-run healthcare plan? You don't have to do anything special just for me; just sign me up for that plan. If it's good enough for Chuck, I'm sure it'll be good enough for me.
