The publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer is defending having John Yoo, the father of the torture memos, on the payroll. And what a defense it is:
"What I liked about John Yoo is he’s a Philadelphian," Mr. Tierney said. "He went to Episcopal Academy, where I went to school. He’s a very, very bright guy. He’s on the faculty at Berkeley, one of the most liberal universities in the country."
Well, sure. Yoo's a helluva nice guy. Never mind that he thinks it's okay to torture children:
... Cassel: If the president deems that he's got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person's child, there is no law that can stop him?
Yoo: No treaty
Cassel: Also no law by Congress -- that is what you wrote in the August 2002 memo...
Yoo: I think it depends on why the President thinks he needs to do that.
... he went to the same school, so give him a platform to "counter some of the criticism of The Inquirer as being a knee-jerk liberal publication."
I'm guessing The Inquirer is against child abuse -- maybe they can find an articulate pedophile to give more balance to their knee-jerk liberal publication. Heck, maybe Mr. Tierney can find him at his next class reunion.
