According to the FCNL.org website, thousands of people used their toll free number yesterday to call their representatives and ask them to vote against the FY 09 supplemental funding measure for the Iraq and Afghanistan occupations. They are encouraging people to continue using that number today, and to use their talking points.
Did you call yesterday? Will you call today?
The number provided by FCNL is 800-517-5696. Make you call and then post details about how it went in the comments! Did you you make a call through another organization's number? Have they posted stats? Anyone taking these calls in a Congressional office yesterday or today want to comment on volume or impact of these calls?
Here is the FCNL script:
Take these three easy steps to join FCNL's national call-in day and urge your representative to vote against more money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Step 1: Make Sure You Know Your Representative's Name
When you call, you will need to ask for your representative by name. Look it up here.
Step 2: Make Your Call
Call 800-517-5696. When the switchboard operator answers, ask for your representative's office. Then give the person who answers the phone this mesasge.
* Hello. My name is _______________. I live in _________________.
* I’m calling today to urge Representative [NAME] to vote against the war supplemental for Iraq and Afghanistan. This bill puts the emphasis on war fighting and doesn’t provide enough funds for development and diplomacy.
* Instead of voting more money for war, I urge Representative [NAME] to become an original cosponsor of Rep. Jim McGovern 's bill to require President Obama to present Congress with an Afghanistan exit strategy. The U.S. needs an exit strategy in Afghanistan.
* Thank you for reporting my requests to Representative [NAME].
If you get a busy signal at any point, try back in a few minutes.
Step 3: Let Us Know How it Went
Did you get through? Did you get any feedback from the person you talked to about your representative's position?
