Vintage Dem's Diary on Buhaki (an Egyptian name BTW), the CH cat piqued my interest. I googled Buhaki and learned that this was the name of Imhoteps cat.
DK is a great place for lefty's of all stripes, and being a lefty animal lover myself I love the steady stream of Pootie, and other pet themed diaries. So let me share the story of my own little kees (that is what we call 'Pooties' around the frik house) and how they came to be named what they are named.
Our first adoption was brought to us by a neighbor as a tiny, flea and worm infested stray. We were not expecting a new member of the house, so after about an hour of getting to know each other I was sent off to the pet store to get the basics. When I got back I put the litter box in it's assigned place, and as soon as it was ready our new kee straggled into the box and did his business. We realized then that he had been holding it the entire time, and right away I decided that was the cat for me.
He is an Orange tabby, and we named him Rustee. Oddly enough, both of our cats have names which relate to Playstation games. My wife and I spent a few minutes trying to think of a name for him while I was playing a Playstation game, and Rustee was one of the characters I had named in the game. Rustee's name may be pedestrian (even if the spelling is a bit quirky), but our next cats name is truly a thing of beauty.
My wife and I were approaching our first anniversary and started playing with the idea of getting another kee. We already had a name picked out for a Tom (Chairman Meow) but didn't know what to name a Queen if we found one which we fell in love with. We were playing with names and based upon the Rustee precedent I started just tossing out names of Playstation game characters.
One of the first names I thought of was Xiahou (rhymes with meow, with the x being pronounced like zh). That name seemed intriguing, but when my wife piped up with "Xiahou Meow" the rhyme was so natural that we knew immediately we had our name, presuming Xiahou did not have some entirely masculine meaning.
The next morning we googled Xiahou and found it was a Chinese word meaning little. We decided the name was so perfect that we just HAD to go to the rescue shelter and get Xiahou Meow as an anniversary gift to our happy little home.
Just to round out the story, Xiahou actually turns out to really have a little meow... almost like she just wants to expend the energy to make a noise but is too lazy to really let out a regular meow unless the situation is really desperate.
Perhaps this diary will go down in flames, but I would love to hear some of my fellow lefty's chime in with their pet names, meanings and story as to how that name came about.
