The MSM is now talking about Dick Cheney using torture to establish fabricated links between al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein's Iraq in order to justify a war against Iraq to the American people. Right before Hardball started today, David Shuster primed the subject:
Chris Matthews was in a relatively no-bullshit mode today and raised the question with Representative Clyburn:
UPDATE: Later in the program he has Michael Isikoff and Robert Windrem on. And they establish the link between Cheney's torture and justifying the war in Iraq: (available momentarily, or maybe not... it's taking awhile to process.)
UPDATE II: My apologies. For some reason the Isikoff/Wndrem interview isn't processing properly so I am trying again. ugh.
UPDATE III: OK, here it is... [ok, I don't know what the problem is, but youtube is not processing this clip. In case they eventually do, I will leave the link up.]
This issue is now out there. It's about time. The Bush Administration, under what is looking more and more like Dick Cheney's tutelage, used torture to establish false links between al-Qaeda and Iraq to justify the war.
Also, of course, check out David Waldman's excellent summary of these events on the front page. This issue is leaking through into general discussion in the mainstream. I can not see how this will go away.
