Fitness Monday is, I hope, an ongoing series of diaries about, well, fitness. You don't need to be a super fit person to participate -- you don't even need to be working out right now or I'd be disqualified. Just be interested in fitness, getting fit, or somewhere on the fitness journey. (like me ;-) )
So, thing one - we need hosts for FM, because I can't always be the host. So how about you? Don't look over your shoulder, I'm talking to you. Anyone interested? Sign up for a day to host and we'll see if we can keep this thing rolling along. There's a calendar in our g-mail account (name is FitnessMonday, pw exercise
Choosing your Routine
There are new fitness fads every time we turn around. And diet fads appear even more frequently. Mixed Martial Arts looks rather trendy right now. The weighted ball seems to be the equipment of choice. Right now too, everything is labeled with "fast", "2-weeks", "bikini-body-now", etc.
I've done it too - ordered the newest videos, gone to the most popular class. It's always nice to have a change of pace. For my long-term fitness plans though, wandering around between videos and classes isn't necessarily a good plan.
I just love to walk. I love to walk so much, I walked a marathon. And I still love to walk - around my neighborhood, on my treadmill, along the beach on vacation, around the city when we travel. Walking is tried and true - for humans in general and for me in particular. No special equipment and hardly any planning.
I also still love yoga. I may never get zen or other peacefulness, however I can keep trying ;-). The combination of strength and stretching suits me. Knowing that billions of people have participated in the same poses for thousands of years makes me feel grounded.

What kind of routines do you use? Do you need a lot of variety or a little? How often do you change?
Preparing for Summer
We finally had our first Very Warm Day yesterday, with the high reaching just over 80f. In all of North American and Europe, and much of Asia, it's only going to get warmer from now through September.
Stay hydrated. Consider replacing minerals with bananas or a drink like EmergenC. If you workout outside, you may want to shift the timing to very early or very late in the day.

Oh yeah, did I say we need hosts?
