A daily blog in defense of liberalism and the President.
I don’t think anyone would disagree that Michael Steele is one of the greatest assets that the Democratic National Committee has. Mr. "Change is being delivered in a teabag and that is a wonderful thing" is a joke and is making a mockery out of the RNC. Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, but I should think that the rank and file Republicans should be. I loved his whole, "the time for apologizing for past Republican mistakes is over". When had it ever begun? I really don’t recall any "Hey America we are sorry for ruining the nation for the past 30 years" coming out of the mouths of anyone on the right. Hell they won’t even say they are sorry for torturing people for Christ sake! He also said that they (The Republican Party) won’t be silent. Sorry Mike I don’t recall you assholes ever being quite about anything. Republicans blow so much hot air out of their pie holes I’m amazed the Capitol Building doesn’t just start floating away. He also said that the problem with the party over the past decade has been that they let Washington change them. Huh? The Republican Party ran Washington for most of this decade; I’d say they were the ones who have changed it, not the other way around. Michael says they will reemerge as the party of new ideas. I’m sorry it is hard to type while laughing so hard! What new ideas? No Taxes and less government? I think we have heard this one before. Yet I think the funniest part of his entire ridiculous speech was when he stated that "They are going to take the President head-on." I’m sorry is he talking about the same party that hasn’t voted with the President on anything yet? I didn’t realize that they had been playing nice so far, but then again we are talking Republicans and they invented evil politics, just ask the Clintons. I do think this nation needs more than one party and more than just one point of view, but seriously when are they going to get their act together and actually start behaving like a viable political party and not just a group of idiots who love torture, hate taxes and love to teabag people? I know this, as long as Michael Steele is the Chairman of the RNC, that day is too far in the future to even hazard a guess.
I know come to the Philosopher of the Week, and we are quoting the brilliant John Stuart Mill who once wrote, "A party of order or stability, and a party of progress or reform, are both necessary elements of a healthy state of political life." Maybe the Republicans will remember this and act like a real Party again someday. Mill also said, "Eccentricity has always abounded when and where strength of character had abounded; and the amount of eccentricity in a society has generally been proportional to the amount of genius, mental vigor, and courage which it contained." It is quotes like this one that make me love Mill, who also said, "If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind." I wish more people today realized how important free speech really is, but anyway until tomorrow goodbye...
