A daily blog in denfense of liberalism and the President, but Not when he is wrong.
This morning Dick Cheney gave a speech where he openly admitted that he ordered certain detainees to be tortured for "information". I wish the current administration had the balls to send some FBI agents up on that stage and escort Dick "The Ruthless War Criminal" off in hand cuffs right after he admitted he committed war crimes. I certainly expect if I gave a speech to a group of people and admitted to everyone I committed some heinous crime I would end up in hand cuffs escorted to a cell and be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I guess according to the Obama Administration there are people who are above the law and that is a very sad message that the President is sending to the rest of the world.
As for the President, I support his efforts to close the Guantánamo Bay Detention Camp, and find it patheticly sad that his own party which had called Gitmo "A travesty of justice" voted against the appropriations for closing the facility. I was hopeful that with the election of Obama we would see some real backbone and strengh come out of the U.S. Senate, but alas they are still the same weak, worthless cowards they have always been, and maybe it is time all of them go! Harry Reid must step down as majority leader. We need a Democratic Senator who actually has a spine and who will stand up to the Republicans and not join them. As far as their vote goes, what is all this bullshit that we can’t bring them here to the United States to serve out their sentenses. I think the only real reason the Republicans don’t want them brought to the United States is because if they received a fair trial open to the public then all the abuses that have been done to these men will come out, which is not what the right wants, but why do the Democrates in the Senate feel the same way?
Now I come to the Philosopher of the Week, and because he is awsome I give you the brillant thoughts of John Stuart Mill who said, "Originality is the one thing which unoriginal minds cannot feel the use of." Wow, it’s like he met some McCain voters. Mill also wrote, "The despotism of custom is everywhere the standing hindrance to human advancement". Hence why the Party of the Status Quo is always is always an enemy to the future success of people. Mill also said, "The individual is not accountable to society for his actions in so far as these concern the interests of no person but himself." I wish our government would read some Mill and maybe we could end the evil and destructive drug war once and for all. Well friends until tomorrow goodbye....
